Now you can explore the Original Shoreline in real time. Download the audio tour on the VoiceMap app, head to the Castle of Good Hope and plug in for a guided commentary through the city. You’ll experience the sights and sounds of the original shoreline, from the lives of early Khoi people to the buzz and bustle of the V&A Waterfront, one of Cape Town’s favourite leisure destinations. The tour takes you on a walk through time, to places that were originally underwater, and introduces you to some of the places, characters and stories that have made up the history of the city today.

The walk is around 4.5 kilometres and takes you through Cape Town’s city centre. Wear comfortable walking shoes and take a hat and sunscreen if necessary. There are places to stop and refresh yourself along the way, but you may want to take some water with you. Please exercise standard caution on the streets to keep yourself and your possessions safe. You can listen to the VoiceMap audio through headphones so you don’t need to keep your phone in your hand.
